Enterprise Activities in Primary Schools

Rob Josephs, Enterprise Co-ordinator at The Littlehampton Academy, recently took his team of student Enterprise Ambassadors to St Philip's Catholic Primary School and Arundel CE School.

The Academy group worked with younger pupils to help them set up their own soap-making companies.  The children had to think carefully about their target market group, business plan and costings, as well as creating attractive packaging and marketing materials.  The Soaptastic days were fast and pacy and the pupils had to work to tight deadlines to be ready to present their companies and products to the judging panels.

Sara Hopkins, Community Liaison Manager for TLA said, "this is a great example of working in partnership with our feeder primary schools, a really positive experience for all the children involved".

Rob Josephs said, "the teams have worked extremely well together, planning their ideas and achieving good results.  The older students have been really good at taking a step back and learning to facilitate the learning, not taking over and doing it for them".

Head Teachers Margaret Fraher (St Philiip's) and Andrew Simpson (Arundel CE) were very impressed with the learning experiences gained by their pupils and look forward to working again with the TLA team.

Pilot project to grow future generation of entreprenuers

Lead Organisation: West Sussex County Council

Other Organisations: West Sussex schools

Target Audience: Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 pupils

Start Date: 03-01-2012

Description:
It is a pilot project, still in its infancy, to be tested on key stage 1 pupils at Holy Trinity Primary School in Cuckfield, key stage 2 pupils at Durrington First and Middle Schools, and key stage 3 pupils at Durrington High School, both in Worthing.

The pilot project will teach core skills relating to attitude, creativity, building relationships and personal organisation. The aim is for students to recognise the attitude and skills they are developing, record them and then evaluate them against the attitudes and skills found in the workplace and elsewhere. A practical challenge is to be set for each school by an employer and an Entrepreneurial Skills Development awards programme will be introduced so the achievements of pupils who take part are recognised.
